What is the difference between glutaMAX and L-glutamine?

L-glutamine is a necessary substance in cell cultures that is used for energy production as well as the synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids. On the other hand, L-glutamine is spontaneously degraded in cell culture media and produces ammonia. Ammonia is toxic to cells and produces pyrrolidine carboxylic acid as by-products. GlutaMAX supplement is a dipeptide of L-alanin-L-glutamine, which is much more potent than L-glutamine in aqueous solutions and does not decompose spontaneously. Bioidea culture media contain glutamax, which is suitable for culturing adipocytes and mammalian suspensions and gradually breaks down glutathione molecules. Therefore, glutamine required for cells is gradually provided to the cells and the shelf life of the culture medium is increased.
